FAQ
Do I need a GP referral?
No, you do not need a referral but you are welcome to bring one.
Emma can accept referrals from NDIS, & community services but unfortunately not from Work Cover or DVA. Please note Willow is not a crisis service, consultations are by appointment.
Does Emma work with all ages?
Emma provides personalized sessions for individuals, both adults and teens aged 12 and above. Telehealth and inperson sessions are available.
Are there Medicare rebates?
Unfortunately, psychotherapy isn't accepted by Medicare so bulk billing and rebates are not available. It's a challenge in the industry and we are optimistic that we will see a shift in the future. If you bring a referral, Emma will provide updates to your GP as requested by you. Although psychotherapy isn't part of Medicare it can be helpful to have comprehensive care with your consent.
Who can I see for a court report?
Emma does not provide medico-legal reports or court letters. If you require documentation for legal matters, your GP can assist you in finding a psychologist or practitioner who offers this service.
Who do I see if I want medication?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialise in mental health. Speaking with your GP and requesting a referral is usually the most appropriate first step.
What's the difference between psychotherapy and psychology?
We're very similar to psychologists. Imagine psychotherapists and psychologists are two branches of the therapy tree, each with unique training. The therapy process and strategies are grounded in evidence based practice and remain consistent, despite our different training backgrounds. Emma holds a Masters in Counselling & Psychotherapy but does not make diagnosis or write reports like a psychologist can. Rather than diagnosis Emma will explore your experience with you, maybe complete some questionairres and make a plan with you to address your needs.
